In National Geographic Channel's "the end of the world specials", I learned that the Ancient Mayans got their "name" around the time of their settlement in New Mexico around 3000BC.

They actually have begged/prayed to the gods to let them settle on a huge rainforest in Mesoamerica. During this time, most of what they've planted didn't flourish (probably coz of the geography), except corn.

And yep, they lived through corn/maize on that. And that's the reason they're coined as "Mayans", coz of CORN~~
and their god came to be the "Maya Maize God", as whom they believed to have been the one who saved them from hunger and made them settled in there.

Here's a wiki of the Maya Maize God~~> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_mai…

They even believed that man is made out of corn, mind you. Ofc, as the years progressed and they've flourished more, they came to have their own way of living in the middle of the rainforest. They made these temples/structures, have pottery, etc and etc. Among other corn reasons out there, Mayans got their etymology of "Mayans" from corn, hence you can even call them as the ancient people of the corn.
Hence, they're called as "Mayans".:la:

But pretty much, I really didn't thought Mayans and corn have gone a very long way back.:iconchuuplz:

And this 2012, not only that the ancient Mayans predicted the world's end, but Mays-chan :icondimawari: :iconcornfelsic:, could and must have connections with the ancient Mayans~~~:nuu:
I mean, c'mon, who would name their child with a corn's scientific name, if this is juz a coincidence, right?;p
It may be a coincidence, and maybe it has a deeper, unfathomable meaning to this, wouldn't you say?;p

Mays-chan must be the key or maybe even a messenger [I'm already cooking up that the 14th Mays-OC would be a "messenger"~~:XD: ] to the Mayan predictions~~!:faint: or she's the "unfathomable"~~
to think time is also unfathomable~~:la:

Hence, maybe Mays-chan can answer much of what Dec.21, 2012 outcome would be (even if it's a miscalculation).;p
maybe, Mays-chan would be the one to decide the fate of the world then~~~:iconscaredtodeathplz:
and to think that Mays-chan was the one who released the zombies in that bizarre zombeh dream I have~~:iconscaredplz:

And as Mays-chan is the derived/eponym of all my 12 Mays-derived OCs, and the number 12 corresponds with time (there are actually 13 Mays OCs, the last one is someone I won't illustrate), but c'mon, 12 or 13, and Mays-chan, and unfathomable, and time, and ancient Mayans~~:nuu:

And to think the very first OC I have made since October 2008, the 1st OC I ever have is named "Maia Izure", which Maia is also another derived name from "Mays" or "Maya"; and "Izure" actually means "another time".
With all these wrapped up, then with my LS plus Mays-chan who goes with her unfathomable concept~~~

Hence, do not ever underestimate the power of CORN~~!!!:iconla-plz:
There are no coincidences on this world, only inevitability, ya know~~;p :XD:

Anywayz~~;p yeah.:XD: Ti's juz uh...well, juz try not associating so much between the elements I presented here: Ancient Mayans' etymology, corn, Mays-chan, my very first OC + 12 Mays-OCs, Mays-chan's role in my zombie dream, yeah.:XD: Maybe all these are juz ya know, coincidences.^^ :iconheehee-plz: Or pretty much, I'm juz connecting the dots here, no matter how unfathomable this is.:XD:

All in all, I was juz amazed that the ancient Mayans got their etymology from "corn/maize" ya know~~~~:iconblushplz:

You're over-thinking things lol.

It's not like my father's the only guy who gave his kid some plant's scientific name as first name XD.
